Veerle and Machiel decided to try and do their wedding despite Covid-19 restrictions, by sticking to the rules at the moment. They planned a smaller wedding in a different location, then an even smaller one. And then a week before the wedding new restrictions were announced and big events were canceled. Not accepting a defeat Veerle and Machiel decided to cancel the party and do just the church ceremony and do a small dinner with just the two families.
The day before the wedding I got a call from the bride who told me the grooms family had to quarantine, since one of the members tested positive. Devastating news, but they decided to proceed with the wedding without half of the family.
The day started with some preparations and a first look at the brides house followed by a small church ceremony and a dinner in the brides family home. They set up a video call with the grooms family and had their small party anyway. But there was a small surprise 🙂 The neighbours decided to do a small corona proof party outside of their house, so that the couple can have a “real” wedding party after all!
This is for sure one of the smallest, most intimate and unusual weddings I have ever photographed in Belgium and for sure the one I will never forget. I was part of this family’s life for one of the most important days of their lives and it was a rare privilege being able to photograph it.
